Born as Eric O. de Guia on Oct. 3, 1942, Kidlat Tahimik made himself known for his 1977 16-mm. film camera, Perfumed Nightmare, a story of a jeepney driver seeking to find his idol, American space rocket engineer Wernher von Braun.

Kidlat believed that a country needs more of economists than artists, driving him to go to Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia) and research about fertilizers. But Kidlat later felt great interest in movie-making since the day he borrowed a 16-mm. film camera from a film student, and that marked the birth of his career.

He committed his time in making a quadrilogy of his life where he produced I am Frivolous Green, I am Curious Yellow, I am Curious Pink, and I am Confused Rainbow respectively.

Other films he made were Who Invented the Yoyo, Yanki: Made in Hong Kong, Turumba, Why is Yellow the Middle of the Rainbow?, and Memories of Overdevelopment.

Known to have open-minded and unique concepts for the films he write, he is also called as the father of the Philippine independent film.
